Establishing an Enterprise Network Baseline with iPerf3: Turning “The Network Is Slow” into a Verifiable Problem
Network performance is affected by endpoints, switching equipment, wireless quality, routing, firewalls, and external links. File-copy tests and subjective impressions alone make it difficult to isolate the cause. This article explains how to use iPerf3 to design an end-to-end test matrix, control direction, duration, parallelism, and transport protocol, record throughput, jitter, loss, and retransmissions, and identify bottlenecks through segment-by-segment comparison. It also addresses test load, authorization, and result retention so that equipment acceptance testing and troubleshooting can use the same baseline.
